Studio 7 was approached to design a family home for a renown boatbuilder with an eye for detail, incorporating features from a former family home and use of materials that reflect the raw materials of boatbuilding including a range of timber finishes and Corten cladding, a product originally designed for the marine industry.
The narrow site presented several challenges including a relatively steep slope from the road down to a small creek, flood zone and a riparian yard for which we procured a resource consent for several non-complying issues.
The program for the new home included four bedrooms, an office and multiple large entertainment areas, a home theatre and outdoor pool.
The design reflects the heritage of the locality with simple gable forms connected with flat green roofs stepping down the site.
For this project, the owner experienced in site management administered the building process with an experienced builder and studio 7’s occasional consultation.
The project is currently under construction with completion due early 2021.
